Pink City “Jaipur”, surrounded by 10km wall, is one of the first planned cities in India built by Maharaja at the time in early 18th century. By the control of Maharaja, which also values ​​handicrafts, the land around the City Palace (maharaja’s residence) was divided into areas where the community of artisans was protected. One of them is the jewelry craftsmen area where people, today after 300 years, continue to grind natural stones every day, and work with gold and silver to create unique jewelries with a beauty that machines cannot express.

We feel that when people talk “luxury” in jewelry, it signifies the famous and expensive stones, rare stones, clear stones with no inclusions, set with full of gold and worn in special occasions, probably only a few times a year.

On the other hand, relatively common stones, stones with natural inclusions, or naturally pale or graduated colored stones tend to be set in silver and treated as cheap accessories.

We love these familiar, unprocessed, untouched natural colors, the one and only stones, and we believe it is the “luxury” to wear daily these adorable stones cut by the artisans with time, passion, skills which can be obtained only over years of experience.

Stones that are as clean as glass may be sparkle but are possible to be chemically treated or machine-cut,  and you don’t find love and attachment which you may feel to hand-crafted stone. Wearing an object which is unique in the world, crafted with precious time and experience of various craftsman, is true luxury.

私たちの思うラグジュアリー

10kmに及ぶ壁に囲まれたピンクシティ「ジャイプール」は、18世紀前半に当時のマハラジャによって建てられたインドで最初の計画都市の一つ。手工芸も大切にするマハラジャの統制によって、シティパレス(マハラジャの住居)の周りはエリア分けされ、各職人達のコミュニティーが守られました。そのうちのひとつ、ジュエリー 職人のエリアは、300年経った今でも代々続く職人が日々天然石を削り、金銀で細工をし、機械では表現できない美しさを持つジュエリーを作り続けています。

ジュエリーというと、有名で高価な石、希少価値の高い石、内包物がないクリアな石、金をふんだんに使ったものがラグジュアリーで良いもの、特別な時、年に数回だけ身に着けるものというイメージが一般的だと感じます。

一方で、比較的一般的に手に入る石、自然の内包物がそのままの石、色が薄い又はグラデーションがかっている石は、大抵の場合、シルバーでセッティングされ、安価なアクセサリーとして扱われることが一般的です。

私たちは、これらの身近に手に入る、独自の内包物を持った、処理もされていない天然のままの色、つまり唯一無二の石こそ愛おしく、それらを長年の経験から培った感覚だけで削り、時間をかけてセッティングをしたものをいつも身につけることこそラグジュアリーだと信じています。

ガラスのようにきれいな石は、化学処理されていたり、機械で均等にカットされていることもありますが、愛着を持ってひとつひとつの石に手作業を施したものは、温かみが違うのです。世界に一つだけの、様々な職人の時間と経験と愛情が込められたジュエリーこそがラグジュアリーだと感じるのです。
